The Sheep Creek Range dominates the northwestern portion of this landscape, its steep topography giving way to the broad, level expanses of Boulder Valley and Boulder Flat to the east and south. This transition between high desert peaks and low-lying basins is defined by a network of seasonal watercourses and agricultural infrastructure. To the west, Rock Cr flows through the foothills, supplemented by the Rock Cr Ditch which reflects local water management efforts in this arid environment. The Lander Co / Eureka Co line bisects the territory, running vertically through the heart of the range and the valley below. Transport through this section is sparse, centered on the unpaved Rock Creek Rd, while the eastern flats are marked by the presence of Boulder Cr and extensive wetland areas.
