Salmon National Forest defines this high-altitude landscape in Lemhi County, where the Continental Divide drainage systems take shape. The topography is anchored by prominent summits including Sheephorn Peak and Rocky Peak, creating a high-relief environment characterized by steep basins and narrow drainage forks. Several headwater streams, such as the Milk Fork and Middle Fork, converge as they flow toward the lower valleys. This 1987 provisional edition highlights the water management and early resource exploration of the area, featuring the Stone Reservoir tucked into the mountain folds and scattered evidence of mining activity, indicated by a Prospect and an Adit near the northern boundary. The presence of Nez Perce Lake near the southeastern corner further emphasizes the glacial and aquatic features of this interior mountain range during the late twentieth century.
