About this map

The Continental Divide forms the serpentine border between Idaho and Montana in this high-elevation mid-century survey. This remote landscape is defined by the high crests of the Beaverhead National Forest and Salmon National Forest, where the terrain drops sharply into narrow drainages. The Pack Trail network provides the primary infrastructure through the peaks, connecting landmarks such as Pyramid Peak and Sheep Mtn. High-altitude water sources like Shewag Lake, tucked below N Mountain, feed the headwaters of the Fourth of July Creek and Sheep Creek systems. A distinctive solitary peak known as Tower stands in the southwest, overlooking the complex topography of Cottonwood Cr and Carmen Creek. This document captures the wilderness character of the Beaverhead Mountains before modern road expansion reached these upper basins.
