Gunnison National Forest land dominates the northeastern corner of this region, where the Sawatch Range rises above the drainage of Cabin Cr. The landscape is a complex network of high mesas and deep gulches, characterized by the prominent summit of Signal Peak and the sprawling Flat Top plateau to the south. Modern recreational access is well-documented through an extensive trail system including the Signal Mesa East Trl and Duane's World Trl.

The southern half of the sheet follows the meandering course of Tomichi Creek as it flows toward its confluence with Cochetopa Cr near the mouth of Cochetopa Canyon. This area illustrates the relationship between the high-altitude topography and the vital water sources that define life in the Gunnison Basin. Transportation routes like Co RD 743 and Winze Rd provide access through rugged terrain such as Lost Canyon Gulch and Sheep Gulch.
