1956 Map of Silesia

USGS Topo · Published 1958

About this map

The Clarks Fork Yellowstone River flows northward through this mid-century landscape, joining the Yellowstone River at the northern edge of the survey. This confluence is the site of significant irrigation infrastructure, evidenced by the White Horse Canal, Mason Canal, and Edgar Canal, which draw water toward the fertile agricultural flats of the White Horse Bench. The arrival of the railroad shaped the local economy, with the Northern Pacific and Chicago Burlington and Quincy lines intersecting near the settlement of Silesia.
