Cherry Ridge and the prominent elevations of West Butte and Mid Butte define this high-plains landscape in northern Montana. The drainage patterns are dominated by the Thirtymile Cr system, including its Northwest Fork and Br Thirtymile Cr, which carve through the arid terrain. This 2017 survey by the U.S. Geological Survey details a region where water is a vital resource, marked by scattered water sources such as Gidley Spring, Laporte Spring, and Campbell Spring.
