Lake Powell dominates the southern portion of this landscape, its fingers reaching deep into the canyons within the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. The topography is defined by massive plateau features, most notably the central Sit Down Bench and the neighboring West Sit Down Bench. These formations, along with the White Rocks and Grand Bench, represent the high desert plateaus that characterize the north-central Kane County wilderness.
