Baranof Island and the intricate coastal waters of the Alexander Archipelago are the focus of this 2017 survey. The landscape is dominated by the dense reaches of the Tongass National Forest, where the terrain drops sharply into Neva Strait and Fish Bay. This coastal geography created a complex network of maritime passages and sheltered coves, such as Haley Anchorage and Gilmer Cove, which historically served as critical refuge for vessels navigating the inside passage.
