Kootznoowoo Wilderness dominates this coastal landscape on the northern reaches of Admiralty Island, where the dense coastal forest meets the cold waters of the Gulf of Alaska. The terrain is characterized by the high ridges of the Glass Peninsula, which separates the open gulf from the more sheltered waters of Stephens Passage to the east. This 2024 survey documents a region defined almost entirely by federal conservation, as the entire landmass falls within the Admiralty Island National Monument and the Tongass National Forest.
