Kanisku National Forest encompasses the majority of this territory in northeastern Washington, where the landscape is defined by the drainages of Skookum Creek and its various forks. The topography rises sharply to summits like Skookum Peak and Cooks Mtn, with Bear Paw Ridge overlooking a series of high-elevation water bodies including Mystic Lake and Vances Lake. In the lower elevations to the southwest, the Pend Oreille River briefly appears near the junction of Le Clerc Rd S and Pondoray Shores Rd. A significant scientific landmark, the Newport Geophysical Observatory USGS, is situated in the southeastern portion of the quadrangle near Indian Creek. The network of forest service roads and named meadows, such as Conklin Meadow, reflects a landscape managed for both conservation and resource access.
