Kaniksu National Forest dominates this mountainous landscape in the northeastern corner of Washington. The terrain is defined by high ridges and peaks, most notably Skookum Peak and Cooks Mtn, which shed water into a complex network of drainages. The Skookum Creek system, including its North and South forks, carves through the timbered uplands toward the Pond Oreille River in the southwest.
