The White River and Mississippi River converge in this delta landscape, defining a complex network of wetlands and riverbed history. Much of the western terrain is preserved within the White River National Wildlife Refuge, where oxbows like Moon Lake and Big Round Lake illustrate the shifting path of the water. The eastern side of the levee reveals a different character, marked by extensive dry basins such as Snow Lakebed and Brushy Lakebed, which point to the reclaimed nature of the Mississippi floodplain.
