About this map

The prairie wetlands of Towner County define this landscape, where the seasonal waters of Mauvais Coulee and Big Coulee carve a drainage pattern through the glacial till. Much of the northern terrain is dedicated to conservation, dominated by the Brumba National Wildlife Refuge and the Brumba Pool. To the south, the Towner County Waterfowl Production Area preserves further habitat amidst the agricultural grid of the North Dakota plains. Small community centers like Crocus and Arndt anchor the rural road network, while the resting places of early inhabitants are preserved at Brumbaugh Cem and Zion Cem. The map reveals a land structured by section lines, where scattered depressions and intermittent streams dictate the placement of local thoroughfares like 89th Dr and Krueger Dr.
