The lowlands of northern Allen Parish are defined by the winding course of Sonnier Bayou and its many tributaries, including Cyrus Gully and Coulee Bayou. This landscape is primarily rural, marked by a sparse network of roads named for local families and agricultural infrastructure. Of particular note for genealogists are several small, dispersed burial grounds such as Sonnier Cem, Cole Cem, and Saint Joseph Cem, which often represent the only remaining markers of family homesteads in this part of Louisiana.
