The boundary between San Joaquin and Stanislaus counties bisects a landscape defined by industrial water transport and agricultural development. Central to this area is the massive infrastructure of the California Aqueduct, the Hetch Hetchy Aqueduct, and the Delta-Mendota Canal, which traverse the flat valley floor. In the northern reaches, the Rising Sun School and the settlement of Solyo mark the local community centers near El Pescadero (Grimes).
