The ephemeral watercourses of Sulphur Draw and the South Fork Sulphur Draw define this High Plains landscape along the boundary between Cochran Co and Yoakum Co. In a region where surface water is scarce, these intermittent drainage systems are central to the local geography, cutting subtle relief into the terrain as they trend eastward. This 2022 survey illustrates the grid-based development of West Texas ranch and farm land, where the natural hydrology often dictates the placement of rural infrastructure. A network of secondary roads, including FM 1585 and FM 301, serves the surrounding agricultural operations. These roads, along with numerous county routes like Co RD 197 and Co RD 260, provide the primary framework for contemporary land use and property access in this portion of the Llano Estacado.
