About this map

The High Plains landscape of the Texas Panhandle is defined by industrial extraction and deep drainage systems in this 1970s survey. The northern reaches of the map show a developed energy infrastructure centered around a Gasoline Plant and an adjacent Radio Tower, supported by a dense network of pipelines and gas wells that stretch across the plateau. To the south, the terrain breaks sharply into the rugged breaks of Pats Creek and its East Fork, where the land drops away from the flat cattle country into complex draws. This intersection of the four corners of Hansford, Ochiltree, Hutchinson, and Roberts counties highlights a remote working landscape, featuring a private Landing Strip and local Gravel Pits that served the area's road and industrial needs during the mid-century petroleum boom.
