Burgess and the surrounding rural uplands of the Panola and Lafayette county line are defined by a complex network of seasonal drainages and localized peaks. The northern reach is anchored by Sardis Lake, where Buford Cr and Clear Creek flow into the reservoir’s southern edges. The landscape rises toward several prominent high points, including Lowe Mtn and Terrapin Mtn, which overlook the headwaters of numerous small streams such as Marcum Cr and Splinter Cr.
