Springdale anchors this section of the river valley, situated along the southern bank of the Yellowstone River where it meets the historic Old Stage Rd. The terrain is defined by a series of steep drainage systems, including Mendenhall Cr and its eastern and western forks, which carve through the high ground south of the river. The boundary between Park and Sweet Grass Counties bisects the area, marking a transition in the regional administration of these agricultural and ranching lands.
