The Emigrant Trl cuts across the northern edge of this high-desert landscape in Sublette County, following a corridor of western migration that remains etched in the terrain. This arid region is defined by an intricate network of drainage features and livestock watering points, such as Sand Springs Draw, Water Hole Draw, and Mud Hole Draw. Water management for ranching is evident in the numerous impoundments scattered across the township, including Desert Reservoir Number 1, Lost Reservoir, and the Tibbals Reservoir. The topography rises to the namesake Square Top landmark, while industrial activity is represented by the Speedway Pit. Modern access is provided by unpaved routes like Muddy Speedway 23-113, which traverses the central basins and crosses S Muddy Cr.
