About this map

The Kansas River carves a wide valley through this region of Pottawatomie and Wabaunsee counties, separating the northern township of St George from the southern township of Zeandale. In the early 1950s, the landscape was defined by the dual infrastructure of the Union Pacific and the Chicago Rock Island and Pacific railroads, which ran parallel to the river. The small settlement of Zeandale serves as a rural hub south of the river, while St George sits at the base of the northern bluffs near Blackjack Spring.
