Balakai Mesa dominates the northern landscape of this portion of the Navajo Nation, terminating at the prominent Balakai Point. The area is characterized by high-desert landforms and scattered water sources essential to the local environment, including Lone Pine Spring and Faye Spring. To the south, the namesake Steamboat Rock stands as a landmark near the winding Steamboat Canyon, providing a dramatic topographical transition. Transportation through the area is anchored by Az-264, which skirts the southern canyons. Local landmarks such as Eagle Crag, Eagle Rock, and the descriptively named White Rock serve as significant navigational points across the high plateau of Tsintaa Yiti Ii.
