Stillwater Mtn rises above a landscape defined by an intricate network of waterways and high-elevation basins in Herkimer County. The northern reaches of the Independence River and its tributaries, such as Moose Cr and Crondall Cr, drain a terrain characterized by numerous ponds and wetlands. Notable water bodies including Sunday Lake, Hitchcock Lake, and the expansive Stillwater Reservoir serve as the primary landmarks in this largely undeveloped wilderness.
