The industrial character of the era is evidenced by the density of extraction sites, including the Golden Crest Mine and the Gilt Edge Maid Mine situated near the settlement of Galena. Transportation networks are dominated by the Chicago and Northwestern railroad, which snakes through the steep terrain along Whitewood Creek.
