Sunburst Lake and the surrounding high country of Flathead County are defined by a complex drainage network feeding into the South Fork Flathead River system. This 2011 survey by the U.S. Geological Survey details the steep elevation shifts between prominent summits such as Oreamnos Peak and Stadium Peak, which overlook narrow glacial valleys. The drainage patterns are clearly delineated, with Palisade Creek flowing from Palisade Lake to meet Little Salmon Creek in the southern portion of the quadrangle.
