Sundown Mountain and the surrounding reaches of the Siskiyou National Forest define this landscape in the mid-1980s. The area is marked by a complex network of timber and access roads winding through the drainage basins of the Pistol River and Hunter Creek. While dominated by natural terrain, human activity is evident at the Gardner Ranch and the small settlement of Myers.
