Colville National Forest and Okanogan National Forest dominate this high-elevation landscape, where the border between Okanogan Co and Ferry Co runs through the western reaches. The area is defined by a network of seasonal drainages and alpine waters, including the headwaters of Golden Harvest Cr, Scatter Cr, and Tenmile Cr. Recreation and resource management take center stage in this 2014 survey, which highlights the path of the Pacific NW National Scenic Trail as it winds through the southern terrain. Several established camping areas, such as Swan Lake Campground, Ferry Lake Campground, and Long Lake Campground, provide access to the lakes that give the quadrangle its name. Topographical landmarks like Sheep Mtn, Copper Mtn, and Swan Butte punctuate the ridges, while forest roads like Swan Lake Rd and Golden Harvest Rd provide the primary transit through the timbered hills.
