Los Padres National Forest anchors the northern reaches of this coastal survey, where the Santa Ynez Mountains drop sharply toward the Pacific Ocean. The landscape is defined by a series of south-running drainages, including Arroyo Quemado, Leon Canyon, and Las Llagas Canyon, which carve through the high terrain to meet the shoreline. Transport and settlement are concentrated in a narrow corridor along the coast, with Calle Real and major roadways connecting small communities and recreational points.
