About this map

Mooresville and Belle Mina anchor the southern reaches of this landscape, where the fertile plains of the Tennessee Valley meet the extensive Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge. The map illustrates a transition between established agricultural estates and modern infrastructure, featuring the Auburn Experimental Station alongside the growing facilities of the Tennessee Valley State Vocational-Technical School. Local history is deeply embedded in the terrain through named crossroads and plantations, including Anderson Plantation and Tanner Crossroads, as well as numerous small community landmarks such as New Zion Ch and Beulah Land. The transportation network is defined by the Louisville and Nashville Railroad and the Southern Railway, which supported the movement of goods and people through the Haney Bottoms and toward the river. To the southwest, the Harris-Sweetwater Waterfowl Management Area reflects the environmental management of the Wheeler Lake shoreline during the early 1960s.
