Taswell and Eckerty anchor this mid-century topographic record of the southern Indiana landscape, where the Southern Railroad Grade cuts through the ridges and hollows of the Hoosier National Forest. The map captures a rural network of small schools and country churches such as Fedora Sch, Allstott Sch, and Highfill Chapel, many of which served dispersed farmsteads during the 1950s. The terrain is defined by its deep drainages, including Fleming Creek and Allstott Creek, which flow southward toward the Crawford and Perry County border.
