About this map

Bering Land Bridge National Preserve covers the vast majority of this coastal landscape along the northern edge of the Seward Peninsula. The interface between the Chukchi Sea and the mainland is defined by a complex network of barrier islands and expansive water bodies, most notably Arctic Lagoon and Ikpek Lagoon. These shallow coastal features are critical components of the arctic ecosystem, separated from the open sea by narrow strips of land. A single administrative route, Shishmaref_Shi2002, cuts across the preserve, following the alignment of the coastline. The map documentation includes the township and range designations t7n r40w, t6n r40w, and t6n r41w, providing a precise grid for this section of the Nome Census Area. This survey reflects the remote and protected character of the Alaskan shoreline in the early twenty-first century.
