Thompson Reservoir dominates this high-elevation landscape in Lake County, serving as the central drainage point for a complex network of seasonal creeks. Fed by Silver Creek from the south and north, and Auger Creek from the northwest, the reservoir sits at the junction of Thompson Valley and Auger Valley. The surrounding terrain is defined by its water management and livestock history, evidenced by features like the Squaw Spring Corral and several isolated water sources including Toolbox Spring and Hawk Spring. A single human outpost, Elder Cabin, is marked on the western edge of the valley near Strawberry Creek. This 2011 survey documents a remote section of the Oregon high country where the road system, including route 3006, follows the natural contours of drainage basins like Graham Creek and Squaw Creek.
