Okanogan National Forest dominates this high-altitude landscape in the late 1980s, centered on the prominent massif of Tiffany Mtn. The terrain is defined by a network of drainage basins and sub-alpine meadows, such as North Twentymile Meadows and South Twentymile Meadows to the northwest, which feed into the Smarty Creek system. Human activity is concentrated along established recreational and resource extraction corridors, notably the Tiffany Spring Campground and a scattered history of mineral interest evidenced by the Bernhardt Mine and a Quarry near Three Buttes.
