About this map

Tobe and the high plains of southeastern Colorado are defined by a network of ranching infrastructure and intermittent watercourses in this recent survey. The landscape is dominated by the massive landform of Mesa De Maya, which stretches across the southern portion of the quadrangle. Agricultural survival in this arid region is evidenced by the distribution of named water sources and pumping sites, including Williams Windmill, Rincon Windmill, and George Canyon Windmill.

Family history and early settlement patterns are preserved through several localized sites. Both Parker Cemetery and Plum Valley Cemetery sit along the drainage basins of Poitrey Creek and Plum Creek, respectively, serving as anchors for the rural community. The rugged drainage of George Canyon and the prominent rise of Lone Butte provide distinct landmarks amidst the branching roads of Co Rd 169 and Co Rd 26.
