Tobe occupies a high-plains landscape in Las Animas County where the flat-topped mesas of southeastern Colorado begin their descent into dramatic canyon systems. The terrain is defined by the Comanche National Grassland, which preserves vast sections of the shortgrass prairie. The topography transitions sharply in the south, where Lone Butte and the northern edge of the Mesa de Maya rise above the drainage of W Carrizo Cr.
