The Shoshone National Forest landscape is defined by its dramatic elevation changes and a chain of glacial lakes that follow the path of Torrey Creek. This drainage system connects Torrey Lake, Ring Lake, and Trail Lake, creating a unique hydrologic corridor that supported early irrigation efforts. Evidence of these water management projects remains visible in the Diamond Ditch and Carson Ditch, which redirect water from the lower reaches of the Wind River and its tributaries.
