Wind River and the high peaks of the Wind River Range define this corner of Wyoming as it appeared in the early 1990s. The landscape transitions from the river valley into the protected confines of the Shoshone National Forest and the Fitzpatrick Wilderness. A distinctive chain of lakes—Torrey Lake, Ring Lake, and Trail Lake—occupies the valley floor between the towering elevations of Whiskey Mountain and Torrey Rim.
