Trego Hot Springs sits at the southwestern edge of the vast Black Rock Desert, marking a critical point of water and activity in a landscape defined by alkali flats and arid heights. The Western Pacific railroad cuts a straight diagonal across this terrain, following the ancient natural corridor that once served emigrants and now connects this remote basin to the wider world. The transition from the flat desert floor to the steep slopes of Pahsupp Mountain is immediate, with the topography rising sharply toward the east.

Evidence of small-scale mineral exploration is found on the mountain's lower flanks, where Prospects indicate the region's long-standing mining interest. Along the northern edge of the sheet, the Quinn River meanders through the playa, its seasonal flow shaping the environment of the sink. A network of Jeep Trails provides the only access into the high country, tracing paths through the draws and ridges where surveyor markers and benchmarks anchor the physical geography of Pershing County.
