Trinity National Forest and Six Rivers National Forest converge at the crest of the Salmon Mountains, defining a landscape of high ridges and deep drainage basins. The boundary between Humboldt Co and Trinity Co follows the prominent divide of Devils Backbone and Horse Trail Ridge, where elevation gains are marked by the presence of Mill Cr Lakes and Water Dog Lakes.
