The Sacramento Mountains dominate this high-altitude landscape within the Lincoln National Forest, where a complex system of drainages and seasonal water sources defines the terrain. The namesake Turkey Peak rises as a central landmark, surrounded by a network of deep-cut canyons such as Turkey Canyon, Nahtzillee Canyon, and Elk Canyon. This arid environment necessitated the development of numerous tanks and water catchments, including Tommy Jones Flat Tank, Upper Indian Tank, and Lower Indian Tank, which supported local ranching and land management efforts.
