Turnbull Island is a complex fluvial landscape defined by the shifting paths of the Red River and the Mississippi River system. The area is dominated by oxbow lakes and secondary channels, including the Upper Old River and Lower Old River, which isolate the island from the surrounding parishes. This 2020 survey documents the intricate water network of Grand Bay, Moreau Lake, and Shark Bay, illustrating the persistent wetlands that characterize this border region between Pointe Coupee and West Feliciana Parishes.
