Range Creek carves a path through this section of the West Desolation Canyon wilderness, where steep drainages and high plateaus define the landscape. Isolated homesteads such as Pilling Ranch and Wilcox Ranch sit tucked along the narrow valley floor, connected to the outside world only by the unpaved Range Creek Rd. The drainage network is complex, with Turtle Canyon and Xmas Canyon feeding into the primary waterway from the high elevations of the Big Horn Benches.

South of these canyons, the topography rises toward Big Horn Mountain, overlooking the wide expanse of Rabbit Valley. Water sources are sparse in this environment, with only localized features like Joe Spring providing relief from the arid terrain. The presence of these named ranches and springs among the deep incisions of Mitchs Canyon and Trail Canyon suggests a long history of cattle ranching and seasonal survival in one of Utah's more secluded interior regions.
