Pilling Ranch and Wilcox Ranch represent the few outposts of human settlement in this high-elevation corridor of Emery County. Situated along the winding course of Range Cr, these ranches are tethered to the narrow riparian zone that cuts through the steep-walled Range Creek Canyon. The landscape is a network of drainage systems and high plateaus, where deep incisions like Turtle Canyon and Trail Canyon define the difficult travel through the region.
