Porcupine Mountains State Park and the Ottawa National Forest dominate this Upper Peninsula landscape, where a dense network of waterways drains the northern highlands. High points like Summit Peak, Porcupine Peak, and the namesake Underwood Hill define the interior, providing the elevation for numerous named streams to flow toward the coast. The drainage pattern is particularly evident through the Little Carp River and West Branch Iron River, which are fed by smaller tributaries such as Toledo Creek, Sooty Creek, and Canyon Creek.
