The town of Unity serves as the focal point for this landscape in Baker County, where the high desert meets the southern reaches of the Whitman National Forest. This 2017 survey reveals an intricate network of irrigation ditches, including the Wham Whited Ditch, Curop Ditch, and High Line Ditch, which trace the contours of the land to manage water from the S Fork Burnt River. The prominent Unity Reservoir dominates the northern terrain, while smaller catchments like Whited Reservoir and Morfit Reservoir support local agriculture and livestock. In the southern half, the terrain rises toward Murray Peak and Murray Pasture, transitioning from the developed irrigation of Denny Flat to the wooded elevations of the national forest. Local history is anchored by the Unity Cem and numerous named gulches such as Powell Gulch and Haskins Gulch, which reflect the ranching and geographical heritage of the area.
