Unityville serves as the central settlement within this section of the Coteau des Prairies, a vast upland plateau that shapes the drainage patterns of eastern South Dakota. The landscape is defined by the winding course of the W Fork Vermillion River as it travels south across the McCook and Miner County line, eventually joined by the Little Vermillion River. The rural character of the region is reflected in its scattered landmarks, including the Sun Prairie Baptist Cem, which sits along the section lines north of the town site.
