About this map

Wheat Ridge Cem and the nearby Storage Bin anchor the high ground in this Lincoln County landscape, recorded during a 1969 field check. The terrain is defined by the winding course of Sinking Creek, which flows through a series of significant depressions and basins. To the west, Wagner Lake, H Lake, and O'Brien Lake dot the coulees, surrounded by several Gravel Pits and Borrow Pits that suggest local road-building or infrastructure activity. Transport in the late 1960s was supported by the Burlington Northern railroad cutting across the northern reaches, while the isolated Piper Landing Strip provided a remote aerial connection to the interior wheat country.
