Wayland sits at the heart of this Koochiching County landscape, characterized by the extensive wetlands of northern Minnesota. The E Fork Rapid River winds through the northern sections of the map, carving a path through the low-lying terrain. Human presence is concentrated along a sparse network of forest routes, primarily Indian Pines Rd and Pines Rd, which provide access through the dense tracts of bog and timber. This 2019 survey documents the modern drainage and road patterns of a remote region defined by its water-saturated geography and the Public Land Survey System boundaries that divide the wooded township.
