The southern Virginia Piedmont of Nottoway County is captured here in the mid-1960s, defined by a landscape of interconnected family-named stores and small rural crossroads. The Norfolk and Western railway corridor anchors the southern edge of the sheet, passing through the village of Wellville. Northward, the map details a community structure built around general stores and churches, such as Pattersons Store, Simons Store, and Rocky Hill Ch. The terrain is characterized by a dense network of creek systems, including the notable Lake Nottoway and the winding course of Deep Creek. This 1966 survey, later updated with revisions in 1981, preserves the locations of numerous unnamed cemeteries and rural landmarks like Clays Corner and Spainville at a time when the region remained predominantly agricultural and less developed.
