The surrounding landscape is defined by the sharp transition from the flat agricultural plains of the Llano Estacado to the dissected breaks of the Canadian River valley. Local genealogy and history are preserved at the Wheatland Cem, while the rugged northern section of the map reveals a series of deep drainages including Tipton Canyon, Horseshoe Cave Canyon, and Deadman Canyon. Small settlements like Porter and Wave are located along the extensive grid of county roads that crisscross the Quay and Curry County line.
